Rapco type 419
High-readability rack-mounted Remote Time Display
|
|

|
|
THE 419 IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A
HIGH-READABILITY TIME DISPLAY SUITABLE FOR USE IN A WIDE RANGE OF AMBIENT LIGHT
CONDITIONS.
THE UNIT OCCUPIES ONLY 2U OF RACK
SPACE AND HAS SHORT FRONT-TO-BACK DIMENSIONS, ALLOWING EASY RACK-FACE MOUNTING
WITHOUT WEIGHT SUPPORT.
The 1-inch LED digits allow
(theoretical) viewing distances up to 10 metres, but the exceptionally high
quality of this display [ brightness, contrast and lack of reflections ]
results in a practical figure of up to 15 metres in most conditions; the
off-axis readability is also excellent.
The display is adjustable
through 8 distinct brightness levels, making the 419 suitable for use in
situations ranging from 'radar-room' (near darkness) scenarios to very high
light-level areas such as airfield control towers. Brightness adjustment is
made via a tamper-resistant recessed button at the front panel, allowing
easy in-situ control of intensity of the display.
The 419 is driven by RS422
data packets via a screened twisted-pair cable from Rapco 1804, 1814 or 2804
GPS sources. A low transmission-Baud-rate, and slew-rate-limited drivers in
these sources ensure high integrity of data transmission.
Up to ten displays may be 'daisy-chain' connected to the same cable over
distances of greater than 100 metres
if suitable quality cable is used. Each unit in the chain is locally powered
from 220/230/240V 50Hz ac supplies.
|
| Nine-digits are provided,
arranged for IRIG-style 'Time of year' display, as: |
|
DAY-OF-YEAR, HOUR, MINUTE,
SECOND.
|
| A digit-select button allows
the display to be reconfigured to show only: |
|
7 digits -- DAY-OF-YEAR, HOUR,
MINUTE. |
|
6 digits -- HOUR, MINUTE, SECOND. |
|
4 digits -- HOUR, MINUTE. |
|
A discrete led in the
corner of the display window indicates incoming data failure, due to cable
or source faults.
In addition, a separate indicator shows when the source is in an 'alarm'
state, for example during loss of GPS signals, even if valid data is still
being received by the 419.
The unit will continue to count time when the incoming data is lost, using
an internal Quartz oscillator as a
timebase. The display will revert to showing the incoming data as soon as
valid new frames are received.
In the event that an
approximate (manually-set) time display is required in the absence of
incoming data, the internal back-up clock can be set and started from
additional buttons on the front panel.

THE 1405 OFFERS ALL THE FEATURES OF THE LARGER 419, EXCEPT
THAT IT HAS ½ INCH DIGITS AND IS PACKAGED INTO ONLY 1U OF RACK HEIGHT, WITH
SHORT FRONT-TO-BACK DIMENSIONS.
THE EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH-QUALITY LED DISPLAY IS DESIGNED TO
PROVIDE A TIME-READOUT SUITABLE FOR USE IN A WIDE RANGE OF AMBIENT LIGHT

allowing easy in-situ control of intensity of the display. Practical viewing
range is typically 10 metres, with good off-axis readability
