Rapco Electronics has delivered the Precise Frequency and
Time subsystem for the new Royal Netherlands Navy ship, the Johan de
Witt. This ship is the second Landing Platform Dock vessel of her type
to go into service with the RNLN and will act as a floating headquarters
for a powerful amphibious force.
The prime contractor for the Integrated External and
Internal Communication System on the ship is Rohde & Schwarz Nederland
B.V. who are Rapcos distributor for the Netherlands.
The Precise Frequency and Time subsystem provides
reference frequencies and timecodes to numerous radio transmitters and
receivers on board of the ship. To ensure that the communications systems
remain accurately tuned and synchronised, the subsystem has a high level
of redundancy built in.
Following successful completion of the acceptance test at
Rapcos Basingstoke factory, the equipment has been shipped to the
Netherlands for integration in the complete communication system at Rohde
& Schwarzs test facilities. This activity will be followed by
installation on the ship and sea trials prior to a hand over to the Royal
Netherlands Navy.
